Course Overview:
The Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) Blended Learning Course is designed for healthcare professionals involved in acute stroke management within the hospital setting. Co-developed by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the University of Miami’s Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education, this course emphasizes recognition, evaluation, and advanced management of stroke patients.

  • Physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and allied healthcare professionals working in emergency departments, stroke units, or intensive care units.

Course Format:

  • Online Portion: Adaptive, self-paced modules that focus on advanced hospital-based care for stroke patients, including stroke assessment, treatment protocols, and managing transitions of care.
    • Estimated completion time: 4–8 hours.
  • Hands-On Skills Session: A live, in-person session where students demonstrate stroke assessment tools, stroke syndrome evaluations, and simulated patient management.
    • Time requirement: Approximately 1 hour per student.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs):

  • Physicians: 4.25 AMA.
  • Nurses: 5.25 ANCC Contact Hours.
  • Respiratory Therapists: 4.75 CRCE Hours.

Certification Validity:
Upon completion of both components, participants receive an ASLS Provider eCard, valid for 2 years.

Stroke Center Certification Compliance:
This course meets the educational requirements for stroke center certification, providing standardized education for stroke team members in hospitals seeking or maintaining certification.
