Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) Blended Learning Course - Prehospital Track

Course Overview:
The ASLS Blended Learning Course for the prehospital track provides EMS personnel with the skills and knowledge necessary to identify, assess, and manage stroke patients in the field. Developed by the AHA and the University of Miami’s Gordon Center, this course emphasizes early recognition, prehospital management, and coordination with receiving facilities.

Who Should Take This Course?

  • EMS providers, including EMTs, paramedics, and other prehospital professionals responsible for stroke patient care.

Key Features:

  • Comprehensive education tailored to specific care settings.
  • Training in the use of validated stroke scales, including FAST-ED, RACE, and NIHSS.
  • Hands-on, scenario-based evaluations to reinforce knowledge and skills.

Course Format:

  • Online Portion: Interactive, self-directed modules focusing on the early identification of stroke symptoms, field-based assessment tools, and transport strategies.
    • Estimated completion time: 3–6 hours.
  • Hands-On Skills Session: A practical, in-person evaluation where students apply stroke screening tools, evaluate stroke syndromes, and manage simulated patient scenarios.
    • Time requirement: Approximately 1 hour per student.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs):

  • EMS Personnel: 4.25 CAPCE Hours.

Certification Validity:
Upon completion of both components, participants receive an ASLS Provider eCard, valid for 2 years.
