The American Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Challenge is tailored for individuals with prior emergency medical response experience who seek EMR certification without completing the full 56-hour course.

Course Overview:

  • Eligibility: Candidates should possess substantial knowledge and hands-on experience in emergency medical response.

  • Assessment Components:

    • Written Examinations:
      • A 75-question EMR exam.
      • A 25-question Basic Life Support (BLS) exam.
  • Practical Skills Evaluation: Demonstration of proficiency in essential EMR skills.

Certification Requirements:

To successfully complete the EMR Challenge, participants must pass all written examinations and practical skills evaluations on their first attempt. Failure to do so will necessitate enrollment in the comprehensive EMR course.

Preparation Materials:

Upon enrollment, candidates will receive the EMR digital textbook and a detailed list of required skills to review prior to the challenge assessments.

Additional Benefits:

  • TCFP Compliance: This course satisfies the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) requirement for medical training necessary for Structural Firefighter certification.

  • HB 2604 Eligibility: Volunteer fire departments in Texas may be eligible for tuition reimbursement through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program (HB 2604) when enrolling members in this course.

This challenge pathway offers a streamlined certification process for experienced emergency responders, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards set by the American Red Cross.
