American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Course
Prepare to teach critical life-saving skills to healthcare and public safety professionals. The American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Course equips participants with the tools and certification needed to teach BLS Provider-level courses. Whether you’re expanding your clinical teaching role, supporting your organization’s training capacity, or seeking to advance your professional credentials, this course provides everything you need to confidently lead Red Cross BLS training programs.
Course Content
Participants will learn how to:

Deliver American Red Cross BLS training using a blended learning model

Facilitate scenario-based skill sessions for adult, child, and infant patients

Manage class logistics and adhere to Red Cross standards and protocols

Evaluate team-based BLS skills and provide constructive feedback

Utilize instructor manuals, video resources, and course presentations

Conduct skills verification and written exams to certify participants in:
The course includes both an online session and an in-person session, with emphasis on instructional strategies, participant evaluation, and Red Cross course delivery procedures.
Prerequisites
To enroll, participants must:

Be at least 18 years of age

Possess a current American Red Cross BLS Provider certification (or equivalent)

Successfully complete the online Instructor Candidate Training prior to the first in-person session

Demonstrate proficiency in all core BLS skills during the in-person assessment
Note: Participants who do not pass the pre-course skills assessment will not be eligible to continue. It is recommended that all candidates review their BLS skills prior to the course.
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an American Red Cross BLS Instructor certification, valid for two years, allowing them to teach:

BLS for Healthcare Providers (classroom or blended format)

BLS courses for clinical teams, EMS, nursing students, and allied health professionals

Please note: Per American Red Cross policy, a minimum of four participants is required for this course to run. If fewer than four are enrolled, the course may need to be rescheduled or canceled. Invite your colleagues or peers to register to help ensure the class meets the minimum.
