American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Course (r.24)

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach and evaluate all components of the Red Cross Lifeguarding program. Through a combination of online learning, classroom instruction, and hands-on water sessions, candidates develop the skills and knowledge needed to effectively train future lifeguards in water rescue techniques, surveillance, injury prevention, emergency response, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

This blended learning course includes a required online component (approximately 2 hours) followed by 16 hours of instructor-led, in-person sessions focused on skill demonstration, teaching strategies, and course administration. Participants learn to use the Lifeguarding Instructor Manual, course outlines, and digital resources to plan and deliver engaging, high-quality courses that meet Red Cross standards.

Upon successful completion, candidates earn the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification, valid for 2 years, authorizing them to teach Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront, Waterpark Skills, and Lifeguarding Review courses.
